Kapraun Ledermoden celebrates it 50th anniversary

With its uncompromising standards of quality, the Großostheim leather manufacturer has been in a class of its own for the past half a century.

In 1961, Heinz Kapraun turned his passion for the oldest and most natural upper material in the world into a career and founded a small but brilliant leathermanufacturing company in Großostheim near Frankfurt. The vision he had back then – to work with leather, a material with unrivalled aesthetics, in all its variety to produce the best possible products – has remained unchanged for 50 years: in an age dominated by discount providers, Kapraun has managed to establish itself internationally as a niche supplier for the premium segment, which has a reputation for unparalleled standards of quality. This exquisite label is now represented in 43 countries across the world. The long-term success of the company is not only due to its in-depth knowledge and technical expertise, but also its self-confident style concept: wearing Kapraun means shaping a style with personality rather than the other way round. The creative vision of Kapraun designers is not just to create the finest leather jackets with perfect fits, but also a textile version of a place where individualists can feel at home. In order to meet this challenge, Kapraun has quite simple requirements when it comes to quality: it wants the best of everything. This is why only hides from the best tanneries, accessories from hand-picked specialists such as Piacenza, Brunello and Padano, and primarily European production sites are good enough for the manufacturer. Its reputation as a leader in the leather segment, particularly in terms of knowledge and expertise, is due to its legendary quilted down jackets, as well as the functional processing techniques it uses, such as ‘dry suit’ and ‘hot seal’, which make the leather weatherproof without affecting the breathability of the natural material.

During January 2011, Kapraun received what could almost be considered a birthday present: increased industry interest at Pitt Uomo in Florence, Premium in Berlin and Modefabriek in Amsterdam. ‘Over the last two weeks, we have experienced an almost overwhelming level of interest in our products and have been able to make lots of new business contacts. Our high-quality range seems to reflect the zeitgeist now more than ever before,’ states Armin Graeser, Managing Director of Kapraun. ‘Just as haute cuisine is currently experiencing an upswing, there now appears to be a demand within the market for high-quality hand-crafted workmanship.’ For its anniversary year in 2011, Kapraun is aiming to considerably expand its market share in home markets such as Germany, Austria and Switzerland. This new positive development will be supported by continuous dynamic growth in Eastern Europe and Asia.
